Network Topology
Network Topology
Physical arrangement of network devices.
Types: Bus, Star, Ring, Mesh, Tree.
Star topology is the most commonly used.
Mesh provides maximum reliability but is expensive.
Bus topology is simple but difficult to troubleshoot.
Network Topology: Assume you have been provided four computers to design one LAN and five computers for another LAN. Discuss the devices required to design a LAN and the communication mechanisms between LANs. Include the assignment of IP addresses and MAC addresses for each computer in the design. In the context of LAN1, elucidate how Host1 communicates with Host4. (10 marks)
Network Topology: You are a network administrator asked to redesign a network. (i) The CEO, president, and vice president's computers are connected to each other — choose the best-suited topology and why. (ii) The computer centers need every machine connected to every other machine — sketch the topology. (6 marks)
Network Topology: A defence organization is planning a network for their new office. There are 3 scientists working on confidential projects, each with a team of 5 engineers. Sketch a suitable topology with justification. (5 marks)
Network Topology: A network uses a fully interconnected mesh topology to connect 10 nodes together. Considering full-duplex mode links, calculate the total number of links required and the number of I/O ports required in each node. (5 marks)
Network Topology: Compare and contrast star and mesh topologies using suitable examples. (5 marks)
